Australia’s space industry is accelerating rapidly, with nearly A$2.9 billion in investment fueling projects that stretch from research labs to launchpads. But before spacecraft leave Earth, they must first move across it.
That challenge recently fell to EFM Global, which completed a 1,400-kilometre transport operation for Fleet Space Technologies, moving a full-scale lunar lander model between Adelaide and Sydney for a series of high-profile exhibitions.
The move required specialist transport, secure storage, exhibition handling and precise scheduling to protect a complex, high-value model designed to represent Australia’s growing ambitions in space.
“What makes this project special is that the model isn’t just a display,” said Luisa Giraldo, Senior Account Manager, EFM Global. “It’s part of how Fleet Space presents itself to defence, government and international partners. It has to arrive perfectly every time.”
Fleet Space’s lander model is destined for Firefly’s Blue Ghost lunar mission, making its public appearances a critical part of investor and partner engagement. EFM’s role ensures the model travels safely between exhibitions while remaining launch-ready.
Australia’s increased investment in space has opened new logistical challenges, particularly as large-scale, non-standard assets begin touring domestically and internationally.
“This kind of movement sits between project cargo and events,” Giraldo said. “It’s heavy, technical, and highly visible. There’s no margin for damage or delay.”
For EFM, the project signals a growing role in Australia’s space ecosystem, supporting missions that may one day move not just across states, but across continents.
